M16 Artspace in Canberra is buzzing with opportunities for artists and art lovers alike, from its quirky Shoot Space gallery housed in a former library book chute to its prestigious M16 Drawing Prize. General Manager Lucy Chitkudi, once an exhibiting artist herself, champions the space’s inclusive ethos, welcoming traditional and experimental drawing practices, including sculpture and ceramics. With $10,000 in cash prizes and special awards for First Nations and local artists, the Drawing Prize is a major highlight, but M16’s vibrant calendar doesn’t stop there. Upcoming exhibitions include abstract works by Jeremy Barrett, a curated show Six Degrees, and Corridors of Power by Karen Florence and Melinda Smith. Visitors can also explore 35 artist studios during the open day on November 8. As M16 celebrates its 40th anniversary, a fundraiser featuring a high-value art raffle and silent auction invites the community to support this dynamic, not-for-profit hub of creativity.
