Interested in radio? You’ve come to the right place!

UCFM is the University of Canberra‘s student radio station supported by the Faculty of Arts and Design. You can listen to UCFM on iHeartRadio, right here on our website, or tune in on good old-fashioned radio at FM 87.8. We’re on air 24/7, 365 days a year!

How do I get involved?

UCFM is open to all students currently enrolled and studying at the University of Canberra.

You can sign up as a presenter and jump behind the mic hosting UCFM core programming and special event broadcasts. Or if you’ve got an idea or something you’re passionate about, you can start your own radio show. More interested in the tech side than being behind the mic? You can learn how to operate the studio as a radio tech operator. Scroll down for more info on each and to apply.

You can also contact us via email at ucfm@canberra.edu.au if you’d like to chat first before submitting an application.

Start a Radio Show

Always wanted to host and produce your own radio show? We can make that happen. No prior radio experience is need, we will provide training and assist with producing your radio show.

Radio Show applications open at the start of each semester and close at the end of week 5. Shows commence once you have completed the required training and end in week 15 of semester. Semester 1 shows can be extended over winter term if requested.

There are 3 types of shows you can apply for:

🎵 Music Show – This show is focused on music. Playing music and talking about it in between. An example of this is Local Lunch.

đź’¬ Talk Show – This show is mainly talking with some music tracks in between to break it up. It could be a generic or themed talk show, or even a game show. An example of this is DĂmelo Cantando.

🎙️ Podcast Style Show – This show is only talking with no music at all aside from any theme music and/or stingers. Podcast style shows may also be eligible to be uploaded to podcasting platforms including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and iHeartRadio. Eligibility for this will be discussed once your application is approved. An example of this is A Yappers Guide to Sport.

All hosted show producers must attend a pre-approval meeting then complete the UCFM online induction module and attend the in-studio training course before your show can commence. Once you submit your application, we will be in contact with further information about this.

Please note: only current University of Canberra students are eligible to apply
