On The Wrap Up this week, editors Jade and Matt gave us a behind-the-scenes look at UC FIRST, the University of Canberra’s annual student creative writing anthology. This year’s edition, Marigold and Other Flowers, blossomed from months of submissions, editing, and passionate debate. The anthology showcases a rich mix of poetry, prose, and screenwriting, with themes ranging from nostalgia and grief to love and self-discovery. The editors shared how standout pieces like Annika May’s “Marigold” inspired the title and structure of the book, which is divided into three emotional sections; joy, sorrow, and bittersweet reflection. The launch at Smith’s Alternative was an intimate celebration of student creativity. Whether you’re a writer or a reader, UC First is a testament to the power of student voices and storytelling.
