Sarah Steinhardt and Alice Arnott from the Canberra Chill joined James and Alison in the studio this week to talk about their journeys in hockey, the energy of Canberra’s home crowd, and what makes the Hockey One League so exciting. With Canberra boasting the largest membership base in the league for two years running, the Chill are more than just a team, they’re a community. Sarah, a goalkeeper since age eight, shared how her debut game in 2023 was a turning point: “We won in shootouts… it was kind of just a bit of an unreal feeling to do that for the team.” Meanwhile, Alice reflected on the honour of representing Australia at the Olympics, calling it “pretty special” to see her parents in the crowd.

Despite a tough start to the season, the Chill remain focused and determined, with weekly games offering fresh opportunities to regroup and push forward. If you’re curious about hockey or just want to experience the thrill of live sport you should definitely head to a game this season!
