Canberra legen Genesis Owusu dropped into the UCFM studio to chat with Tom on New Music Fridays, giving us an inside look at the chaotic, creative whirlwind behind his new album. Most of the project was recorded inside a converted church in a small Welsh town, where he and producer Dan Hume spent weeks “jamming for like 10 hours a day” and experimenting in total isolation. A later trip to Ghana added the final spark, bringing what he describes as “the chaotic energy of home” into the visuals and finishing touches of the album.
This new era is all about saying things straight. Genesis explained that after everything the world went through in 2024, subtlety just didn’t cut it anymore: “The point of this album is to be as direct as possible.” That energy has spilled into real life to, he’s been showing up at markets, fans’ houses, and random Canberra spots to reconnect people beyond their screens. It’s messy, it’s wholesome, and it’s very Genesis: building community one spontaneous side quest at a time.
