Canberra Youth Theatre’s production Work, But This Time Like You Mean It is heading to Sydney, bringing its fast-paced, grease-splattered story of young workers in a fast food restaurant to a new audience. Cast members Sterling and Emmy joined us in the studio to share insights into the play’s unique structure, which blends overlapping dialogue, physical props like ball pits and chicken masks, and a deep dive into the realities of youth employment. Originally staged in Canberra’s Courtyard Studio, the show has evolved with a new cast member and fresh perspectives, reflecting the growth of its performers over the past year. With five performances planned, including school shows, the team is excited to share their work at ATYP Theatre, a space dedicated to young creatives. The play’s raw portrayal of fast food life resonates with audiences, evoking both laughter and empathy, and offering a powerful reminder to treat all workers with respect.
