Local fantasy author Damien Francis spoke with Alison from The Real Radio Show about his debut novel The Tome of Haren, the first in a planned eight-book series that could total over a million words. The story follows a young orphan on a dangerous quest to recover a magical book, facing elite mercenaries and high-stakes adventures along the way.
Damien reveals he started the project at just 12 years old and kept refining it through high school, uni, and beyond. He leans toward being an “architect” writer, plotting all eight books before he turned 20, and now self-publishes after navigating a bumpy ride with an indie publisher. Balancing a full-time job, writing, and life, Damien swears by building routines, even if it’s just 20 minutes a day, to rack up thousands of words. The Tome of Haron is available now on Amazon, with more epic instalments on the way.
