Byron Bay–formed indie alt‑rock trio Loose Content are hitting the road and stopping by Canberra this weekend, and they recently jumped on the phone with Barrett and Hannah on The Real Radio Show to chat about it. From touring with Magic Dirt while they were still in high school, to making the jump to Melbourne and finding their place in a buzzing music scene, the band talked about growing up fast through music. They also shared how their sound is shaped by classic Aussie bands like Midnight Oil and Powderfinger, plus influences like Radiohead and The Police, especially when it comes to unexpected song structures, big dynamics, and drum‑driven energy.
A big part of Loose Content’s appeal is their mix of punk attitude and honest political commentary, sometimes loud and direct, sometimes tucked into metaphor. They even handle their own EP and single artwork when they can’t find a visual style that fits. If you want to see all of that come together live, you’re in luck: Loose Content are playing Canberra at Dissent Bar and Cafe this Saturday April 25. Expect high‑energy favourites like Big Bright Burning Sun and maybe even their unreleased, live‑only track Swoon, which they swear hits different in person.
