Jaida Stevenson from Noisy Futures called into The Real Radio Show with Tash and Hannah this week to chat about a huge milestone: 10 years of supporting young people of marginalised genders in music. To celebrate, Noisy Futures is throwing a big birthday bash at Gang Gang Cafe in Downer this Sunday. The event will include live music from Dog Tooth, Private Wives and Ula, plus market stalls, workshops and a panel. Jaida summed it up best as “just a big party,” running from 3–9pm, so you can still get home before bedtime.
Tash, Hannah, and Jaida also touched on the organisation’s evolution from Girls Rock Canberra to Noisy Futures, a name change that better reflects their mission to create inclusive, safe spaces for girls, trans boys and gender diverse people in music. Jaida shared how Rock Camp, Noisy Futures’ flagship program, started as a uni thesis about safe spaces and has grown into a week-long creative explosion of bands, songwriting and DIY projects. For Jaida, seeing last year’s Rock Camp showcase for the first time in person was an almost-tearjerker and a perfect reminder of why Noisy Futures is all about building loud, confident futures through music.
