Delirium is a frightening but often reversible condition that can strike suddenly when someone is unwell, and families are often the first to notice something isn’t right.
Speaking on The Wrap Up this week, Professor Kasia Bail from UC’s Centre for Ageing Research and Translation (CARAT) explained how her team’s new PREDICT toolkit empowers carers to recognise early warning signs of delirium, communicate concerns confidently with health professionals, and help trigger faster responses that improve outcomes.
Designed with carers and clinicians, the tool is already gaining strong traction in hospitals and the community, cutting through what can be an overwhelming experience with clear language, simple checks and practical guidance, all with one goal: acting early to make a real difference.
“If there’s something that makes you concerned and they’re not their normal selves—trust your gut. You know your loved one better than anybody else.” — Professor Kasia Bail
